Shoot for the moon, during my cousin's graduation from Reno High, one of the valedictorians gave a motivating speech about Albert, one of six monkeys sent to the moon. His speech compared Albert's courage and accomplishment to the graduates motivations and accomplishments.
Albert's sacrifice gave me the inspiration for this blog. He was one of six rhesus monkeys who "perished on unsuccessful attempts" to the moon ("Famous Monkeys Through History"). All six monkeys were named Albert. All the monkeys were sent to moon, some died on impact, while others died during the flight before the reached the moon ("A Brief History of Animals in Space"). They died not really knowing what the moon was .
It pains me to know that the way we discovered the moon was by sacrificing (basically, leading them to their death) animals. Monkeys like humans do feel,hear,see,talk,and smell as explain in the article Clever Monkeys "The life of a monkey is full of ups and downs. Like us, monkeys form strong friendships and bitter rivalries. They fight for each other and take care of one another. And the leader of a monkey troop, when deposed, will even exhibit signs of depression." I understand that to make discoveries and advance in our world today we must do what we have to but sending off animals such as these monkeys to their death can not be right.
Albert and the rest of the animals we have used for our own discoveries are truly heroes. No one can take credit for what they endure and experienced.

I'm so glad you explain this reference. There is something so self centered in that we're ok to let a monkey die in space without aking them their oppinion.
